Are you considering Switchboard Upgrades?
Many older homes and businesses in Melbourne are still connected to the mains power supply by an old-fashioned fuse box with porcelain fuses. These types of fuse boxes – also called Federal Boards – are way out of date and do not meet current building codes, in particular Australian Standards (AS3000). Not only have all the components become brittle, with loose cable connections and ‘hot spots’, but they also present a very real risk of fire and a vastly higher danger of electrocution than modern switchboards.
Why Switchboard Upgrades are necessary
The installation of a new switchboard – complete with the appropriate circuit breakers and safety protection switches – to replace your old fuse box will reduce the chances of a fire on your premises or the possibility of electrocution due to a short circuit. Get a switchboard upgrade and the safety switch will trip almost instantaneously when there is a short, cutting the power supply and possibly saving lives. In a new switchboard, there are no fuse wires so there is no risk that you might use the wrong type of wire or injure yourself while attempting to change a fuse in the dark. If ever a short does occur, relax. There’s no need to call our emergency electrician – resetting is as simple as a flip of the switch. All too often old fuses are mended with wire that is incorrectly rated for the fuse in question allowing power to flow through unrestricted in the case of a failure. In this situation, a fire or electrical shock is almost inevitable. Don’t take the risk with fiddly, unreliable and dangerous fuse boxes.
